A characterful stay in a Norman castle overlooking the Volturno River in Italy’s Benevento province - includes breakfast, restaurant voucher, and late check-out

Castello di Limatola’s past may have been one of a defensive stronghold yet, since being taken over by the Sgueglia family, it has switched its focus from security to hospitality - becoming quite the brilliant country bolthole set deep in Campania. Thanks to a thoughtful restoration, the hotel has opened up its 12th-century doors to welcome even the most discerning guest, who could spend their days here enjoying the Volturno River views and Benevento landscape. Beyond its imposing facade and great location (under an hour's drive from Naples International Airport), there’s plenty to impress inside this Norman castle, too.

Bed down in one of the individually designed rooms here and you can enjoy frescoed ceilings, canopy beds and luxurious fabrics as standard. Former tenants have also been immortalised in the names of the guestrooms, which makes for a sojourn that's truly steeped in history. Completing the property's traditional take on things is the on-site restaurant, housed in former stables, which looks to the region’s produce and past to inspire its dishes.

Can't commit to booking right now?

Hold a date for only $40 while you decide.

  • Pay $40 to hold a date until the end of the sale.
  • If you choose to buy it, the money will go toward your purchase. If not, the cash will be credited to your Secret Escapes account.

Important: Please note, this is not a deposit, complete or guaranteed booking; holding the date simply prevents other members from swooping in and booking your preferred date while you're still considering it. Secret Escapes will not be liable for expenses incurred should that date not be available to book and a hold is canceled.
